SCAM ALERT: The complainant (female - 80yrs) received a telephone call from a subject claiming to be "Max" from MicroSoft. He asked her if her computer was on and she answered No. She was told to turn on the computer and enter a specific code. After putting in the code from "Max" the computer screen changed several times without any additional input from the complainant. The subject advised her there were numerous problems on her computer but she could send him a check for $177 to clean it up. The fee would get her a year of protection services. She declined to send the check and advised him she would need to talk to her son before making a decision. The subject hung up the phone. Microsoft was contacted and they stated tech support from Microsoft does not cold call potential clients. The victim was advised to check her banking institutions for unauthorized transactions.
